A raging river crisscrossed by foot bridges
Hydro-electric power and tourism are the two pillars of the Bhutanese economy. Tourism is metered to prevent destruction of the natural environment as well as the eroding the culture. Hydro-electric harnassing is underway throughout the country with development outsourced to countries like India. Laborers, skilled and unskilled, come from neighboring countries but are clustered in ghettos and not encouraged to stay after the project is complete.
All rivers have the swinging suspended footbridges that connect and link a network of mountain trails used by stock as well as the villagers.
