Norway’s Viking Museum

 

Unlike the Roskilde in Denmark, the three ships here were burial ships of highborn covered in clay and turf rather than water. The gold had been removed by grave robbers but the other real treasures are everyday objects needed by the individual in the other world–clothing, household implements, sleds, all practically intact and exquisitely adorned with intricate carvings and brass nail heads.
