Cathedral Square–Heart of the Old City

The historical heart of the city, upper castle on the hill, the lower castle, Royal Palace (under renovation), the Cathedral and the bell tower. The Bell Tower represents the evolution of most of the buildings in the historical center–built originally as part of the Vilnius defence wall in the 13th century, the round part with the narrow windows was added in the 16th century and finally the structure was turned into a bell tower blending “semi-baroque and semi-classical” styles. In spite of the mix of architsectural styles, the tower, like most of the other buildings, appears very graceful and harmonious.
