One Street Over from Long Street
One of the defining characteristics of the burghers’ homes of Gdanisk is the fore-terrace–the type of terrace between the road and the facade of the house. These fore-terraces provided the burghers’ families an opportunity to make a fanciful or impressive statement. Curb appeal? Decorated with gargoyles, carving or wrought iron, they were just one more opportunity for the McMansion to stand out and impress.
