Accessible Volubilis
Walking up and down the Via Decumanus Maximus, recognizing the familiar Roman town/outpost grid, and realizing that here in the capital of Mauretania this was a major trading city supplying exotic wild animals such as lions leopards and elephants both as prestige pets and for gladitoral contents in the Roman arena throughout the empire. Abandoned by the Romans, the “precut” marble made its way to Meknes for use in construction.
