Bab el-Mansour Gate
The most important portal, Bab e-Mansour (Victory Gate), into the medina and once led through a ring of medieval battlements inward toward a vast imperial palace. At the height of power here as many as 30,000 convict laborers were built palaces, two mosques, twenty pavillions and terraces, gardens, fountains, stables and souks. Like so many grandiose plans, this great scheme was never completed and successors to power had other priorities leaving it to earthquakes and elements.
